The line where they meet is different all the way around, which is the whole appeal and the part no factory could reproduce. The shape is low and round with a wide collar and a small opening: elegantly simple, traditional in form, and the kind of thing that only looks effortless because someone has thrown thousands of them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhy It Found Its Way to Hinoki\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis one has a name attached to it. Frank Polizzi has worked as a full-time studio potter in Mineral Point, Wisconsin for more than forty years, firing stoneware, porcelain and pit-fired earthenware at The Mulberry Pottery — a studio built into a former 1940s hatchery, with a second site in a century-old cheese factory where he built his own wood-burning kiln. He was named Wisconsin Public Television's Commemorative Artist in 2009.
