The Hinoki Journal
Small enough to hold, made slowly enough to keep.
Each one is cut and stitched by hand from natural wool felt, so no two come out quite the same — the fox sits with his eyes closed and his paws tucked in, the squirrel clutches an acorn, the owl perches on a felted branch with two leaves still attached. The detail work is where they earn their keep: fine gold running stitch across the hedgehog's back, embroidered eyelashes, hand-sewn spots on the deer. A jute loop at the top means they hang anywhere you want them.
Why It Found Its Way to Hinoki
Ornaments are usually molded, printed, and forgettable. These are made by artisans in Nepal under fair trade terms, from wool with nothing added to it — the kind of thing that comes out of the box every year and eventually belongs to someone else in the family.
