Handwoven • Sustainable • Full of Story
A rattan handbag with leather trim and a batik print lining.
The Hinoki Journal
Part of our Rattan Collection, this handbag starts in the forests of Kalimantan, Borneo, where farmers harvest only mature rattan and replace what they take with new vines so the forest keeps thriving for the generations after them.
The Eclipse takes its name from its rounded shape, and at 11" x 9" x 4" it sits in that useful middle ground between a day bag and something you would carry to dinner. Leather trim frames the weave, a snap closure keeps it simple, and a batik print lining hides a small piece of Java inside.
Our artisan partners in Java use weaving techniques passed from mother to daughter for generations. That work lets indigenous makers own their own businesses and support themselves through a craft their families have always had.
Why It Found Its Way to Hinoki
We're drawn to pieces that support real livelihoods through genuine craft, and this bag carries both. Sustainably harvested rattan, traditional weaving, meaningful support for the artisans behind it.

✦ Amy's Styling Tip
I carry this one through summer with linen and flat sandals, and let the weave be the only texture in the outfit. The rounded shape keeps it feeling a little dressed up even in the daytime.

Spot clean gently and keep away from prolonged moisture to preserve the natural rattan.
