Handwoven • Roomy • Full of Story
A large rattan handbag with dark leather trim and a twist lock closure.

The Hinoki Journal

This is the one you take when you actually need to carry things.

At 11.5" x 14" x 6" the proportions are generous, with interior compartments that keep the inside from becoming a single deep well. The twist lock closure is the detail that makes it, a small piece of hardware that turns a woven bag into something with a bit of ceremony to it. Dark leather trim grounds the natural rattan, and a batik print lining finishes it inside.

Part of our Rattan Collection, it begins with rattan from sustainable forests in Kalimantan, Borneo, where farmers take only mature plants and replant as they go. Our artisan partners in Java weave it using techniques handed down mother to daughter, work that lets indigenous makers build their own businesses and support themselves.

Why It Found Its Way to Hinoki

We're drawn to pieces that support real livelihoods through genuine craft, and this bag carries both. Sustainably harvested rattan, traditional weaving, and a size that earns its place in a real week.

Features

  • Handwoven rattan construction
  • Dark leather trim
  • Twist lock closure
  • Interior compartments
  • Batik print lining

Details

  • Size: 11.5" x 14" x 6"

✦ Amy's Styling Tip

This is my travel bag and my market bag. The dark leather means it does not read as strictly summer, so I carry it well into fall against a wool coat.

Hinoki Care Suggestions

Spot clean gently and keep away from prolonged moisture to preserve the natural rattan.

About the Maker

Handwoven by artisan partners in Java using rattan harvested sustainably from the forests of Kalimantan, Borneo, with weaving techniques passed down through generations.

We were drawn to this collection because every piece carries real craft and story. It's exactly the kind of handmade artistry we love bringing to our Foragers.
