A vintage stoneware bowl in a deep indigo glaze breaking to cream.
The Hinoki Journal
The glaze did what it wanted, and it was right.
Deep indigo pools thick and dark around the rim, then thins as it runs down the inside until it breaks into a soft oatmeal cream at the base — the kind of gradient a potter sets up but never fully controls. Wheel-thrown, with the spiral of the throwing still visible on the underside and a foot ring finished by hand. The blue climbs back up the outside in streaks and crystalline pools, so the bowl reads quite differently depending on whether you're looking into it or at it.
Why It Found Its Way to Hinoki
We buy vintage pottery when the glaze is doing something a factory couldn't repeat. This one is a single piece, found rather than ordered, and there won't be another.
